Many people lost their lives after the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, the process of DNA matching is going on, how can the relatives get the dead body and what do they have to do for this. Let’s know.

Gandhinagar: Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. The Civil Hospital has expressed deep condolences to the people who lost their lives in this accident. The Civil Hospital has given important information related to handing over the bodies of the people killed in this accident. According to the Civil Hospital administration, after the DNA matching process is completed, the process of handing over the bodies to their relatives will be carried forward in the following way.

On which numbers will the information be available?

The Civil Hospital will contact the relatives of the deceased who have provided their DNA samples. Such relations will be contacted by calling on the registered phone numbers. Relatives should only answer the phone call made by an authorized person from the specified numbers of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The phone call will inform them about the DNA matching and when to come to collect the body. The phone numbers through which the relatives will be contacted by the hospital are as follows – 9429915911, 9429916096, 9429916118, 9429916378, 9429916608, 9429916622, 9429916682, 9429916758, 9429916771, 9429916875

Who can claim the body?
The closest relative who provides the DNA sample must come in person. If this is not possible, another close family member can come instead. The person collecting the body must bring the following documents to establish their identity and that of the deceased-

  • The person’s Aadhaar card or any other government approved photo identity card (original)
  • The deceased’s Aadhaar, passport or voter ID card (original or a copy)
  • A document proving their relationship to the deceased
  • The phone number registered during submission of the DNA sample
  • If a close relative is unable to come in person and instead authorises someone else to collect the body, they must provide a proper authorisation letter along with their documents.

What documents will be provided by the hospital?

The hospital will prepare a file for the relatives of the deceased, which will include the post-mortem (PM) report, death certificate and all other necessary legal documents. If there is a lack of documents proving the relationship or identity of the deceased, the relatives must contact their local mamlatdar, collector or provincial officer for guidance after receiving a call from the hospital.

The relatives must report in person to the control room set up in D-2 block of the civil hospital with the above documents. In case of any difficulty in reaching the hospital, please contact the phone number from which you received the call for complete guidance and assistance.

Arrangements for transportation of the dead body

  • Local transportation (by road)- Free ambulance service is available for those who wish to take their deceased relatives back home by road.
  • For air transportation- If relatives wish to transport the dead body to another state or country by air, they should coordinate with Air India in advance. Air India will provide all necessary assistance in this process.

DNA sample matching underway

Dr Rakesh Joshi, superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, said, “As soon as the plane crash was reported, a team of around 250 doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and social workers rushed to the trauma centre to provide the best care during the ‘golden hours’.” Due to the constant guidance and coordination of the highest officials of the health department and the state government, all the injured persons were treated promptly.

Also, sensitive processes like DNA sample matching were carried out efficiently. The cooperation and support of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) made the DNA samples match quickly. As a result, 9 new DNA samples were successfully matched and the body of one victim has already been handed over to his relatives. In this difficult time, the State Government stands firmly with the families of the deceased and is committed to extend all possible help.
