Eknath Shinde started the rebellion in Shiv Sena in June 2022 and staked claim to form the government with most of the party MLAs. Shinde’s claims were supported by BJP and NCP’s Ajit Pawar. After this Shinde became the Chief Minister. At the same time, Pawar got the post of Deputy CM.

Eknath Shinde said, “On the 21st itself, we did a big yoga, it was marathon yoga. That yoga started from Mumbai and because of that, there has been a lot of change in Maharashtra on 21st June. We are seeing development here. Our government is working for the people. Devendra Fadnavis and I are working in this direction under the guidance of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.” Shinde also wished International Yoga Day. He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking yoga to the global stage. Shinde said, “I congratulate everyone on International Yoga Day. Due to the efforts of Prime Minister Modi, the United Nations has recognized it, so the world celebrates this day. Prime Minister Modi himself does yoga every day, so he is healthy and fit. That is why he is strengthening our country and its economy. He also taught Pakistan a lesson through Operation Sindoor.”
What happened on 21 June 2022?
After the death of Balasaheb Thackeray, the command of Shiv Sena was in the hands of Uddhav Thackeray. Uddhav won the election in 2019 by being in the NDA alliance, but he had a rift with BJP over the CM post. In such a situation, he formed the government with the support of Congress and NCP.
The government lasted for some time, but when Uddhav fell ill, Eknath Shinde rebelled in the party. Ajit Pawar also rebelled along with Shinde and both the leaders took most of the MLAs of their respective parties with them. After this, Shinde staked claim to form the government. With the support of BJP and Ajit Pawar, he also formed the government. With this, Shiv Sena and NCP were divided into two factions.
Most of the MLAs of both the parties had rebelled. In such a situation, the Shinde faction got the identity of the real Shiv Sena and the Ajit faction got the identity of the real NCP. For this reason, the name of the Shiv Sena of the Uddhav faction became Shiv Sena UBT and the name of the NCP of Sharad Pawar faction also became NCP Sharad Pawar. Shinde has remained in power since this incident. However, now he has become the Deputy CM instead of the CM.
