Delhi POLITICS: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav has expressed serious concern over waterlogging in the capital. He described the BJP government’s pre-monsoon preparations as snail’s pace and claimed that this time too Delhi will face the tragedy of waterlogging, a glimpse of which has been clearly seen in the two recent rains.
He said that the number of 375 places which were earlier considered waterlogging prone areas by the PWD has now increased to 410, of which 71 are highly sensitive hotspots.
The BJP government is making only hollow claims in the name of dealing with the monsoon
He raised the question that despite the waterlogging tragedy that occurred last year during the Aam Aadmi Party government, many deaths took place, why did the BJP government not learn any lesson from it? Chief Minister and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma are misleading the people of Delhi by making empty statements.
The Congress alleges that the BJP government is making only hollow claims in the name of dealing with the monsoon. Instead of giving relief to the public, this round of rhetoric and negligence is once again taking the capital towards the disaster of waterlogging.
Cleaning of drains is now impossible
He said that according to the report of the Delhi government, only 60.47% of the work of cleaning the drains has been done, while the second deadline of June 15 has also passed. In such a situation, when the monsoon is going to knock from June 24, cleaning of drains is now impossible. While the government giving a new date of cleaning till June 30 only reflects impractical thinking. When the claims are failing on paper itself, then one can imagine how terrible the real situation will be.
All departments seem helpless in dealing with the problem of waterlogging
Devendra Yadav said that the meeting of various departments called by PWD recently, which included representatives of Municipal Corporation, Water Board, DUSIB, Metro, Irrigation and NHAI, also testifies that all departments seem helpless in dealing with the problem of waterlogging.
He also accused the Delhi government that no concrete plan or statement has come from the government regarding the most waterlogging affected areas of the capital, Ring Road, Rohtak Road, Mall Road X, Bhairo Marg, Burari and Najafgarh Road.
