Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke to the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navin Navinchandra Ramgoolam. During this, PM Modi emphasized the special and unique India-Mauritius relations, reaffirmed the shared commitment to further deepen the enhanced strategic partnership. The two leaders discussed measures to further deepen bilateral development partnership and cooperation in other areas. The Prime Minister appreciated Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s wholehearted participation in the 11th International Yoga Day. He also reiterated India’s commitment to Mauritius’ development priorities in line with Vision Ocean and Neighborhood First policy.

PM Narendra Modi discussed ongoing cooperation in several areas including development partnership, capacity building, defense, maritime security, digital infrastructure and people-to-people relations. PM Modi invited Mauritius Prime Minister Ramgoolam to visit India soon. Both the leaders also agreed to remain in touch. Let us tell you that earlier the Prime Minister of Mauritius had come to India in March 2025. Actually, he had come on the invitation of PM Narendra Modi to be the chief guest of Mauritius’ National Day (March 12). During this, many important agreements were also made between the two countries regarding economic, defense, and cultural cooperation.

What agreements were made?

During the visit of the Prime Minister of Mauritius to India in March 2025, many important agreements were made between the two countries. These include agreements to promote trade in local currency (INR / MUR), providing credit facility to Mauritius from India, cooperation in MSME sector, partnership between foreign service institutions, cooperation in good governance and administrative reforms, sharing white shipping information for maritime security, marine science and data sharing, as well as India’s help in building a new Parliament building in Mauritius and water pipeline project. The visit of the Prime Minister of Mauritius to India further strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries.
