The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude struck the Andaman Sea at 7:03 am on Wednesday. Earlier, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude struck at 1:43 am. According to USGS, this earthquake struck Port Blair and its depth was 270 kilometers.
Earthquake struck early in the morning
Earlier, regarding the earthquake that struck at 1 am on Wednesday, NCS said in a post on X, “The earthquake struck at 01:43:50 Indian time, while its epicenter was at a depth of about 20 kilometers from the sea surface.” There is no immediate report of any casualties or damage to property due to the earthquake.
Earthquake struck three times in 24 hours
Earthquake tremors were felt three times in the Andaman Sea from Tuesday to Wednesday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology, the first earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred at 3:47 pm on Tuesday afternoon, the second earthquake occurred at 1:43 am on Wednesday morning and then the third earthquake occurred at 7:03 am whose magnitude was measured at 5.4. In this way, earthquake tremors are being felt continuously in the island part of the Andaman Sea.
No loss of life or property has been reported so far
There is no report of any kind of damage due to the earthquake so far. Even though the intensity of the earthquake was moderate, but considering the sensitivity of the earthquake, the concerned agencies are keeping an eye on the situation. According to experts, the occurrence of mild earthquakes from time to time in this area is a part of normal geological activity.
