This is equal to the total number of addresses given by all his Congress predecessors. Official sources gave this information on Wednesday. The Prime Minister’s five-nation tour is ending today. During this, he addressed the parliaments of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Namibia.

Which figure did PM Modi equal?

Sources said that Prime Ministers associated with the Congress Party Manmohan Singh had addressed the Parliament of another country seven times, Indira Gandhi four times, Jawaharlal Nehru three times, Rajiv Gandhi twice and PV Narasimha Rao once. Thus, five Prime Ministers associated with the Congress had addressed foreign parliaments a total of 17 times in about seven decades. Officials said that PM Modi has equaled this figure.

Addressed the parliaments of developed and developing countries

Sources said that Modi has addressed the parliaments of developed and developing countries, which reflects India’s wide global respect and relevance today. An official said, “India has stood with many countries of the ‘Global South’ during their freedom struggle. They listened to us then and they want to listen to us even today, especially about our democratic and development journey.” The countries whose parliamentarians have been addressed by Prime Minister Modi include America, Australia, Britain, Nepal, Mongolia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Guyana, Fiji and Uganda.

The future has to be shaped through dialogue and partnership: Modi

Addressing the joint session of the Parliament of Namibia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that both sides should work together to build a future that is not based on power and dominance, but through partnership and dialogue. PM Modi said that Africa should not be just a source of raw materials but it should be a leader in value addition and sustainable development. He said, “We have to work together. Let us build a future that is defined not by power but by partnership, not by domination but by dialogue, not by exclusion but by equity.” The Prime Minister said India looks forward to expanding its cooperation with Africa in the field of defence and security. “Our development partnership in Africa is worth over USD 12 billion. But its real value lies in shared growth and shared purpose. We will continue to support local skill building, job creation and innovation,” he said. In his address, Modi highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties between India and Namibia.
