Ahmedabad PLANE CRASH UPDATE: 49 hours of flight data recovered from the black box of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 plane crash, investigation also includes about 2 hours of recording from the time of the crash, AAIB has started investigating the accident.

49 hours of data of Air India’s Boeing 787-8, which crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has been downloaded. In this, a golden chassis from America has helped in downloading 49 hours of flight data from the black box. The Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. 241 out of 242 people on board died.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) recovered both the black boxes Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) and they were brought to Delhi on June 24. Mostly data from flight recorders is downloaded after obtaining the golden chassis and relevant download cables from other accident investigation authorities.

AAIB said that the golden chassis and cables required to download the data have been ordered from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of America. The investigation of Air India’s black box is being led by Sanjay Kumar Singh. Apart from this, Jasbir Singh Larhaga is working as the chief investigator. The investigation team includes Vipin Venu Varkoth, Veeraragavan K. And Vaishnav Vijay Kumar is also included.

Data of the time of the incident was recovered

AAIB’s Delhi lab tried to download data from the (forward) EAFR on June 24. In this, the Crash Protection Module (CPM) was removed, which was found to be in normal condition. According to the initial report of AAIB, raw data was extracted from EAFR by mounting the CPM on the golden chassis. It contained about 49 hours of flight data and information of six flights. Which also includes the accident flight.

The data recovered by AAIB also contains about 2 hours of recording at the time of the incident. The initial investigation has been completed. According to this, the rear (after) EAFR was very damaged. Investigators opened the CPM to inspect the memory card, but found that the damage was too much.

The plane crash happened on 12 June
On 12 June, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft (flight AI 171) took off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat for London Gatwick. Immediately after takeoff, the plane crashed into the hostel premises of a medical college within a few minutes, killing 260 people including 241 passengers on board. However, one passenger survived in this accident.
