Balasore: A student of Fakir Mohan Mahavidyalaya in Balasore, Odisha, set herself on fire due to harassment. The student was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in a critical condition, where she died late on Monday night. According to the information, the student was brought to the ICU of AIIMS Burns Center at 5:15 pm on July 12 after being referred from Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. As soon as she arrived, doctors started emergency treatment and considering the severity of her condition, she was given antibiotics and put on ventilator. Despite intensive care and advanced medical interventions, the student could not be saved. AIIMS officials have confirmed that she was declared dead at 11:46 pm on July 14.
Deputy CM met the family
After the death of the student in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said, “As soon as we got the news, we came to meet her (victim’s) family, doctors and everyone. It is very sad that even all of us together could not save her. The government will take strict action against all those involved in this. The matter will be thoroughly investigated. Strict action will be taken against all those involved in this.”
CM assured action
Odisha CM Mohan Majhi expressed condolences on the death of the FM College student. He wrote on ‘X’, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of the student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. Despite all the efforts of the government and the tireless efforts of the expert medical team, the life of the student could not be saved. I pray to Lord Jagannath to give strength to her family to bear this irreparable loss. I assure the student’s family that all the culprits in this case will be given the harshest punishment according to the law. I have personally instructed the officials in this regard. The government stands fully with the family.”
Congress and BJD protested
At the same time, politics has also heated up after the death of the student. Congress and BJD have started dharna-protest. Activists protested outside AIIMS regarding this matter. At the same time, the Principal and HOD of FM College have been arrested. The matter is being investigated. Earlier, President Draupadi Murmu also met the victim and her family at AIIMS and encouraged the family.
