Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said the nation comes first. Parties are the vehicle to make the country better. Tharoor, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, said the aim of any party is to build a better India. He said he will stick to his stand of supporting the country’s armed forces and the government because he believes “it is the right thing to do for the country.”

“Now, parties have every right to disagree on what is the best way to do this? As you know, many people have been critical of my stance because I have supported the armed forces and our government and I have taken a similar stance regarding what has happened recently in our country and on our borders.’

The Congress MP said, ‘But I will stick to my point because I believe this is the right thing for the country.’ Later, on the sidelines of the program, he told reporters that ‘Nation first has always been my philosophy.’
Told why he returned to India?
He said that he has returned to India only so that he can serve the country in every possible way through politics and also outside politics. He said, ‘I have tried to do this.’
Tharoor gave speech on these two issues
When asked whether he has any problem with the Congress high command, Tharoor said that he has not come here to discuss any politics or problem. He said, ‘I have come to give two speeches. Both the speeches were on subjects that I hope the public will respect and value. The first speech was about development, role of businesses and peace and harmony. The second speech mainly focused on communal harmony and efforts to live together so that we can all move ahead and progress, he said.
