Ghaziabad: Indigo started its commercial flights from Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu flagged off these flights

Ghaziabad: IndiGo on Sunday launched its commercial flights from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. These flights of IndiGo will connect Hindon Air Terminal to nine cities including Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu flagged off these flights. After Air India Express, IndiGo has now become the second airline to operate its services at Hindon Airport.

Flight of aspirations of common Indians

During the ceremony, Naidu praised the success of the central government’s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. Naidu said, “This is the success (of UDAN) of Hindon, Ghaziabad, Western Uttar Pradesh and the entire country. This is the flight of ambitions and aspirations of common Indians.” The Civil Aviation Minister said, “During 2024-2034, civil aviation will grow in Tier II and III cities and we have to harness this potential. Hindon will become an example.”

Flights to these cities
With IndiGo starting its commercial flight services at Hindon Airport, the terminal will now be connected to nine cities – Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Goa, Varanasi, Patna, Indore and Ahmedabad.

IndiGo will provide daily flights to most destinations except Chennai. IndiGo flights to Chennai will operate six days a week. At the same time, two flights will operate daily from Bengaluru. Return flights to Hindon from all these places are also scheduled daily.

IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Peter Elbers said that with about 70 weekly flights from this airport, the airline aims to increase point-to-point travel for customers in the region, giving them the option of flying from an airport closer to their homes. From March 1 this year, Air India Express started direct flight service from Kolkata to Hindon Airport. The airline had said it would operate 40 weekly flights from Hindon, directly connecting Bengaluru, Chennai, Goa, Jammu and Kolkata.
