There is important news for the soldiers of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan announced on Sunday that CAPF soldiers who get seriously injured during an operation, lose a part of their body or become a victim of any permanent disability, will remain in service till retirement. They will also get proper promotion. Along with this, they will also be given a one-time basic monetary package.
Mohan said in a program organized in Delhi that the government will ensure the best medical facilities and technology available in the world for “limb replacement surgery” for CAPF officers and soldiers and it will be ensured that the damage to the organs is repaired as much as possible.
The committee will make recommendations in a few months
During his address on the 87th Foundation Day of CRPF, Union Home Secretary Mohan said, “The government will also ensure a minimum financial package for such employees and they will also be accommodated in the organization.” CAPF personnel will have to follow certain physical standards for timely promotion and service.
On the other hand, a senior officer of the Central Armed Police Force told news agency PTI that a committee of officers has been formed under the leadership of CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh, and it is expected that in the next few months the committee will finalize its recommendations and the modalities for implementing the scheme.
‘Physically disabled people will remain in service’
The officer says that hundreds of CAPF personnel have lost their legs, hands or eyes and have become victims of permanent disability in IED blasts or other similar incidents during many operations in the last decades. However, he also said that there are very few cases where a soldier or officer has been removed from the job due to any such injury, but many soldiers have to face a lot of trouble due to not getting promotion, because they fail to meet many fitness related criteria.
The Home Secretary said that the committee will work to relax its norms and ensure that officers and jawans suffering from amputation or any other permanent disability continue to get their promotions and other benefits which they would otherwise get. He said, “Now the Home Ministry has decided that the jawans and officers who lose their limbs or become physically disabled during the operation will not be removed from service.”
At least 5 CRPF jawans were seriously injured during the 21-day anti-Maoist operation that ended on May 11 on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border about 3 months ago. A search operation named ‘Operation Black Forest’ was conducted in Karegutta Hills (KGH).
Jawans facing difficulties during duty
Home Secretary Mohan said that after ethnic conflict broke out in Manipur in May 2023, a large number of CRPF personnel, including women, have been deployed there to maintain law and order. He further said that during his recent visit to the state, he found that the personnel have to move from one place to another and face many difficulties due to lack of adequate facilities.
Mohan also said, “The CRPF Director General has been asked to prepare a report on the facilities required for the jawans, especially women. The Home Ministry will ensure the best facilities.” He also said that efforts are also being made to improve the living conditions in the camps in Naxal-affected areas (Left-Wing Extremism, LWE).
Referring to the campaign to eliminate Naxalism, the Union Home Secretary said, “The CRPF is playing an important role in eliminating the threat of Naxal insurgency before March 2026.” He further said that 149 forward operating bases have been added in the Left Wing Extremism affected areas, forcing the Maoists to retreat. He said that Left Wing Extremism in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal is now on the verge of ending.
