West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and once again accused the central government of imposing a reign of “linguistic terror” on Bengalis across the country. She also said that the Delhi Police beat up members of a migrant family. She posted a video on social media X, in which the child is allegedly being beaten up.
Mamata Banerjee posted a video on her social media account in which a child and his mother, who according to her were part of a migrant family from Chanchal in Malda, are allegedly being beaten up by the police.
She wrote in her post, “Disgusting!! Horrible!! See how the Delhi Police brutally beat up a child and his mother, members of a migrant family from Chanchal in Malda. See how even a child is not able to escape the brutality of violence in the reign of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against Bengalis!” She further said, “Where are they taking our country now?”
Allegations of atrocities on Bengali speakers in the name of language
Earlier on Monday, while addressing the TMC’s Shaheed Diwas rally, Mamata Banerjee had said, “The BJP has unleashed terror on Bengalis and their language; if it does not stop, our resistance movement will reach Delhi.” She said, “The BJP and the Election Commission are conspiring against Bengal and want to remove Bengalis from the voter list.”

Mamata Banerjee warned that if NRC or “SIR-like” processes were introduced in the state, the TMC would strongly oppose them. He said that we will never allow this.
TMC started movement for Bengali identity
He instructed TMC workers to protest against “BJP’s attacks on Bengalis” every weekend after July 27. As part of the movement, TMC leaders and workers held rallies in various parts of West Bengal on Sunday.
Mamata Banerjee and TMC have been constantly accusing Bengali speakers of harassing them over language. Mamata Banerjee alleges that people are being labelled Bangladeshi even for speaking Bengali. They are being beaten up and many are being labelled citizens of Bangladesh.
He alleged that the BJP is deliberately playing with the identity of Bengal and Bengali speakers are being humiliated. Earlier on July 21, during the Shaheed Sabha, Mamata Banerjee had announced a continuous movement against linguistic identity.
