West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was scheduled to come to Delhi on Tuesday to attend the meeting on One Nation One Election, but she canceled her trip at the last moment. It is being said that Mamata Banerjee has refused to come to the meeting to be held in Delhi citing her commitments related to the budget of Bengal.
The budget is likely to be presented in the West Bengal Assembly on February 8. Party leaders say that keeping the budget in mind, the Chief Minister has refused to attend the meeting to be held in Delhi. Although his schedule to come to Delhi had been fixed, at the last moment he decided not to attend the meeting. Mamta Banerjee said that she has informed Ramnath Kovind, chairman of the committee formed for One Nation One Election, about not attending the meeting.
Two TMC leaders will join in place of Mamta
Mamata Banerjee further said that she is unable to come to the meeting, but two of her party leaders, MPs Sudip Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, will attend the meeting. Last year itself, the Modi government took steps forward regarding One Nation One Election and constituted a high level committee. Former President Ramnath Kovind has been made the chairman of the committee.
Government has constituted high level committee
This committee is talking to different political parties and experts regarding One Nation One Election and is trying to know their opinion. A meeting in this regard has already been held. The government says that elections are held somewhere or the other throughout the year in India, due to which the economic burden on the country also increases. In such a situation, if One Nation One Election is considered, it will be better for the country and will also prove beneficial for the public.
