New Delhi: The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha. The main objective of this bill is to crack down on paper leakers. Very strict provisions have been made in this bill.
What is the punishment for leaking paper?
Under this bill, if found guilty of paper leak, there will be a punishment of 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 crore. If a person goes to appear for the exam in place of another candidate and is found guilty, he will be sentenced to 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
What is special in this bill?
Through this bill, incidents of paper leaks in recruitment examinations like UPSC, SSC etc. and entrance examinations like NEET, JEE and CUET will be curbed. It proposes a minimum punishment of three to five years of imprisonment to curb fraud and those involved in organized crimes of fraud will have to face imprisonment of five to 10 years and a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore.
Elaborating on the need and importance of the bill, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that in the last few years, the interests of lakhs of students have been affected due to leakage of question papers and cancellation of examinations due to organized cheating.
