Ahead of the major protests by farmers in Noida and Greater Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar Police has imposed Section 144 of CrPC on 7 and 8 February. Police has also issued a traffic advisory. In this, in view of the farmers’ movement on tractors, people have been informed about changes on some routes in the cities. Farmers in Noida and Greater Noida have been protesting since December 2023, demanding increased compensation and developed plots in exchange for their lands acquired by local development authorities.
To pressurize their demands, farmer groups have announced ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ on 7 February and a protest march to Parliament in Delhi on 8 February. Additional DCP (Law and Order) Hridesh Katheria said that it is proposed to hold a Mahapanchayat of farmers on February 7 and march to Parliament in Delhi on February 8. Some other demonstration programs have also been proposed by various organizations during this period.
While announcing the restrictions, Katheria said in the order that the possibility of disturbing peace by anti-social elements in view of the program cannot be ruled out. According to the order, the restrictions include a ban on unlawful gatherings of more than five people and unauthorized processions, including religious and political.
Instructions to people in view of farmers’ movement
Police have also issued instructions regarding some changes in traffic, in which in view of the farmers’ movement, passengers have been informed about changes on some routes in both the cities. The traffic department has informed the public about the diversion on various roads of Dadri, Tilapata, Surajpur, Sirsa, Rampur-Fatehpur and Greater Noida.
