Dharamshala: Police in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh took a major action against drug smuggling and arrested 3 people on Independence Day. The arrested Russian citizens include a woman and a man. Police have recovered 102 grams of hashish from them. At the same time, in another case, the patrol team of Baijnath police station recovered 78.30 grams of hashish from a person.
How did the police arrest the Russian?
Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Ratan said that a team of Panchrukhi police station had received secret information. Based on this information, the police searched a vehicle and recovered 102 grams of hashish from 2 Russian citizens including a woman riding in it. Both were taken into custody and a case was registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). Also, their vehicle was also seized.
A person arrested from Padol Road
In another incident, the patrol team of Baijnath Police Station arrested Vishal Kumar, a resident of Padol Road, Baijnath. 78.30 grams of hashish was recovered from Vishal. Action has also been taken against him under the NDPS Act. SP Ashok Ratan said, ‘We will continue to take strict action against drug smugglers and illegal liquor suppliers. The public is appealed to inform the police about such activities. The identity of the informers will be kept completely confidential.’

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), 1985 is a stringent law made to prevent drug trafficking in India. This Act regulates the production, storage, transportation and sale of narcotics such as hashish, ganja, heroin, cocaine and other psychotropic substances.
