Following a controversial social media post related to the Maharashtra elections, the Nagpur police have registered an FIR under various sections against Sanjay Kumar, an official of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS). The FIR has been registered under several sections of the BNS, including charges of providing false information and possible election-related violations.

The Superintendent of Police of Nagpur district, while giving this information to India TV over the phone, said that this case is being registered against Sanjay Kumar, an official of CSDS, on the complaint of the Tehsildar of Ramtek. Let us tell you that the opposition had questioned the Election Commission by citing Sanjay Kumar’s election-related data. However, Sanjay Kumar had apologized for his tweet. The sections under which the case has been registered against Sanjay Kumar include 175, 353, 212, 340, 356 and information about this has also been given to the Delhi Election Commission.
What did the complainant say?
Ramesh Kolpe, Tehsildar of Ramtek Tehsil, who is the complainant, said that Sanjay Kumar had tweeted and given wrong information regarding the Ramtek elections. He had tweeted that 38% votes have decreased between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. This case has been registered for tweeting wrong information. CSDS officer Sanjay Kumar had tweeted, a case has been registered against him.
What did Sanjay Kumar say?
CSDS Professor Sanjay Kumar apologized on Twitter and said- “I sincerely apologize for the tweet posted regarding the Maharashtra elections. There was an error while comparing the data of 2024 Lok Sabha and 2024 Assembly elections. The data given in the line was misread by our data team. The tweet has now been deleted. I had no intention to spread any kind of misinformation.”
