Delhi High Court: Issued notice to the government and municipal corporations and sought reply on the steps taken towards building earthquake resistant buildings in the capital.

The Delhi High Court has taken a big step in view of the dangers of earthquake in the national capital. The court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Delhi government and municipal corporations and sought a reply on the steps taken towards building earthquake-resistant buildings in Delhi.

Hearing the matter, a bench of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has directed the government and municipal corporations to submit a detailed status report. The court said that in view of the potential dangers of earthquake in a sensitive area like Delhi, it is very important to have strong arrangements for rescue and security.

Accountability of government officials
This petition has been filed by advocate Arpit Bhargava, in which strict policies and guidelines have been demanded to protect the people of Delhi from the ill effects of earthquake. The petition also states that the accountability of the concerned government officials should be fixed for not taking timely steps to deal with disasters like earthquake.

“Laws related to earthquake should be strengthened”
The petitioner has urged the court to strengthen the laws related to earthquake and get them strictly followed. This hearing has raised hopes that safety standards regarding construction work in Delhi will be improved, which will reduce the loss of life and property due to any major disaster in the future.
