The additional 25 per cent tariff announced by US President Donald Trump on India earlier this month will come into effect from today, taking the total tariff on Indian imports to 50%. Trump had announced additional tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia, which India has repeatedly described as “unfair, unreasonable and unreasonable”.
The new tariff will come into effect from 9.30 am Indian time. On Monday, the US Department of Homeland Security issued a draft notice outlining the plan to impose a 50 per cent tariff on products imported from India. By imposing heavy tariffs on India, Trump is hoping to pressure his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine, so that Moscow’s oil trade can be curbed.
At the same time, PM Modi has started preparing to deal with the situation after this order of Trump. Modi assured that the government will not let the increased tariffs affect small industries and farmers. I stopped a nuclear war between India and Pakistan, Trump claims again
US President Donald Trump said, “I spoke to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. I asked what is going on between you and Pakistan. Then I talked to Pakistan about trade. I asked what is going on between you and India? The hatred was tremendous. It has been going on for a very long time, like, sometimes for hundreds of years under different names. I said, I don’t want to make any trade deal with you.
You guys will get embroiled in a nuclear war. I said, call me again tomorrow, but we will not make any deal with you, otherwise we will impose such high tariffs on you that your head will spin. Within about five hours, it happened. Now maybe it will start again. I don’t know. I don’t think so but if it does, I will stop it. We cannot let such things happen.”
We will work together with China – Trump
After ordering 50 percent tariff on India, Trump has now tried to woo China. “We will work together”, he said, adding that 600,000 Chinese students have been allowed to enter the US amid ongoing trade talks with Beijing.
Interest of farmers, livestock farmers and small industries is a priority – PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already said in this regard that India will withstand external pressure. He also assured the public that the interest of farmers, livestock farmers and small industries is his priority. He said, “The interest of farmers, livestock farmers and small industries is paramount for Modi. Pressure may increase on us, but we will bear it.”
We will find a way soon – Harsh Vardhan Shringla
“Hopefully we will find a way to conclude a satisfactory mutually beneficial free trade agreement with the United States sooner rather than later and this will certainly take us to the next phase of President Trump’s visit to India,” said former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla in Virginia.
America issued notice
The US Homeland Security Department has issued a notice to India. It says that America will impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods from 12:01 am (local time) on August 27. In this way, the total tariff will become 50 percent.
