US Tariff Row: The US has said a big thing about imposing 50 percent duty on Indian goods. Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka has said that he told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that maybe someone is “not very happy with you but your personality is so big that you can withstand those uncomfortable situations.” Rabuka shared the details of his conversation with the audience after delivering a lecture on the topic ‘Ocean of Peace’ organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) at Sapru House here.

PM Modi and Rabuka discussed important issues

The Prime Minister of Fiji arrived in Delhi on a three-day visit on Sunday. The purpose of PM Rabuka’s visit is to strengthen Fiji’s relations with India in various fields such as maritime security, trade, health, digital technology and capacity building. India and Fiji on Monday prepared an action plan to promote defense relations and agreed to work jointly for a peaceful and inclusive Indo-Pacific. PM Modi and Rabuka also held important discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation.

‘No talks with US President’

After the ICWA lecture, a listener asked him about his bilateral talks with leaders of various countries and what was told to him about the ‘Ocean of Peace’ vision. Rabuka said, “I have not had any personal talks with the US President. I have requested a bilateral meeting with the President of Russia. I have had a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Britain.” He said, “When we talked, Prime Minister Modi reiterated our sentiments and concept.”

What did Rabuka say to PM Modi?

“Now, whatever is happening is affecting your relations with the US. The recent announcements of tariffs. I told him (Prime Minister Modi) that some people are not very happy with you, but your personality is so big that you can withstand those uncomfortable situations,” Rabuka said without elaborating.
