Delhi: Once again the lawyers will start their strike from September 8, the lawyers demand that the police officers should physically come to the court and present their testimony and evidence instead of coming from the police station.

Lawyers will go on strike once again in Delhi. They will start their strike from 8 September. Before the start of the strike, a meeting of the committee of all the District Bar Associations of Delhi was held in Patiala House Court. It has been decided in this meeting that the strike of lawyers starting from 8 September will neither be postponed nor withdrawn.

In the information released by the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA), it was told that a meeting of the committee was held on Saturday, in which the issue of presenting evidence in the court online from the police stations was discussed. Lawyers are opposing the presentation of evidence by the policemen from the police stations itself. They believe that people will not get justice from this. Due to this, they are once again on strike against it. The lawyers demand that the policemen should testify in the court only physically (by coming in front).

Bar Council’s appeal rejected
In fact, the Chairman of the Bar Council of India had appealed to the lawyers to withdraw the agitation. Despite this, the lawyers did not withdraw it. The lawyers said, we have clearly said that this movement is in the interest of the general public so that the cases can be conducted in a fair and independent manner. Therefore, it has been decided that if our demand is not met, the lawyers will stop work indefinitely from September 8 and the movement will be intensified further.

Why are they on strike?

The information said, we are firm on our demand and reiterate that the policemen will have to appear in the courts to give testimony/evidence. NDBA Secretary Tarun Rana said that on Saturday a letter was received from the President of the Bar Council of India which was addressed to the presidents and secretaries of the Bar Associations of all the district courts of Delhi. In it, a request was made to withdraw the movement.

Rana further said, however, we want to make it clear that the coordination committee has started this movement to protect the interests of the general public and this movement will continue until our reasonable demand is met.

The statement also said, it has been decided unanimously that if the personal presence of all police officers in the court is not ensured to present testimony/evidence, then we will stick to our decision of indefinite work boycott from September 8 and this movement will be intensified further.

Strike had happened earlier too

Earlier, Delhi lawyers had started a strike on August 22 regarding the same matter. This strike was ended on August 28 after a meeting with the representative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In fact, on August 13, a notification was issued by Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena. In this, police officers were allowed to testify only through audio and video from the police station. The lawyers are protesting against this order. The lawyers argue that this order is anti-people.

A delegation of representatives of the Coordination Committee of District Courts and Delhi Bar Council had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding this matter. After the discussion, the Home Minister had said that a circular will be issued in this regard, in which it will be made clear that police officers will not be allowed to testify from the police station and will have to go to the court to testify and present other evidence. But, the lawyers say that on September 4, a circular came from the Police Commissioner’s office, which was not as per the assurance given by the Home Minister. After this, the lawyers have now decided to start the strike again.
