Places will be made to feed dogs
At the same time, Satya Sharma, chairman of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), on Tuesday (September 9) directed the officials to make a place to feed stray dogs in every ward of the city, Satya said that in coordination with the local municipal councilors, three to four places will be identified in each ward, where places will be made to feed dogs.
‘Submit report in a week’
The officials were asked to submit an action taken report on the move within a week. Satya stressed that the MCD is intensifying sterilisation and vaccination drives at animal birth control (ABC) centres across the city.
A sub-committee is working on related strategies to control the stray dog population and prevent the spread of diseases like rabies. Satya Sharma said uncontrolled feeding of dogs by people in public places often leads to the formation of packs, leading to conflicts and increase in dog bite incidents.
The move came after the Supreme Court urged the MCD to take immediate action to curb the problem of dog bites. Satya Sharma appealed to all councillors, residents and voluntary organisations to cooperate in the initiative.
