Kathmandu: Due to the division of GEN G into two factions in Nepal, meetings of the army, including the President, continued throughout the night. After a lot of brainstorming after midnight, it was agreed to give the command of the interim government to former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Due to differences in GEN G regarding Sushila Karki, Army Chief Shokraj Sigdel and President Ramchandra Poudel had to work hard.
Final decision taken at Shital Niwas
In an important meeting held late Thursday night under the leadership of President Ramchandra Poudel at Shital Niwas, it was agreed to hand over the leadership of the interim government to former Chief Justice of Nepal Sushila Karki. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting called by President Poudel, in which Army Chief Ashokraj Sigdel, senior lawyer Omprakash Aryal, Sushila Karki and other prominent personalities were present.
Discussion on dissolving the parliament
The process of formation of the interim government as well as the issue of dissolving the parliament were also discussed in the meeting, although differences with GEN G also came to the fore on this subject. Following the old tradition in Nepal, there has been a consensus among the Gen Z groups on handing over the reins of the interim government to former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. The Gen Z youth want that the dissolution of the parliament should be announced first and then the interim government should be formed. The Gen Z representatives remained adamant on this demand. However, a decision on the dissolution of the parliament has not been taken yet.
GEN G demanded to keep political parties away
According to sources, the Gen Z representatives also requested the Army Chief that President Paudel and any old political party should not have any role in the interim government in any form. Further discussion on both these issues is going on on Friday morning as well. The Gen Z youth have clearly said that the talks will not move forward until their demand of dissolution of the parliament and keeping the old parties including the President out of the parliament is accepted. In such a situation, there is a possibility of further delay in the formation of the interim government.
What has happened in Nepal so far?
Friday is the 5th day of violence and protests in Nepal. So far 34 people have died in this movement. This movement was run under the banner of Gen-G. The youth played a big role in it. According to Gen-G, this movement was against the corruption spread from politics to various government departments. During this, the people of Nepal set fire to the President’s House, Prime Minister’s residence, Singh Durbar (in which Nepal’s ministries used to run), houses of various ministers, hotels, shops, establishments and vehicles.
