Sikkim: 4 people died and 3 are still missing due to landslide in Upper Rimbi of Yangthang in the western region of Sikkim

Gangtok: A massive landslide has caused a lot of devastation on Thursday night in Upper Rimbi under Yangthang Assembly constituency in the western part of Sikkim. At least 4 people lost their lives in this accident, while 3 people are still missing. According to the police, 3 people died on the spot due to the landslide. After this, the police, local people and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel together started relief and rescue operations.

2 women rescued from Humeum river

The police rescued 2 injured women safely by building a temporary bridge with tree trunks on the flood-affected Hume river. Both were immediately taken to the district hospital, but unfortunately one woman died during treatment. The condition of the other woman is still critical. Gezing Superintendent of Police Tshering Sherpa said, ‘We carried out rescue operations even in difficult conditions, but 3 people are still missing. Their search is on.’

Landslide also occurred on Monday

Let us tell you that earlier another landslide wreaked havoc in Gyalshing district of Sikkim on Monday midnight. In this accident, 45-year-old Bishnu Maya Portel of Thangshing village died. Police said that this landslide occurred due to heavy rains, which completely destroyed Bishnu’s house. This accident spread panic in the entire area.

Administration appealed to remain alert

In view of the danger of continuous landslides, the district administration has issued an advisory for people living in landslide-prone areas. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert and follow the safety rules. Officials said that there is a danger of more landslides due to heavy rains, so people should stay in safe places and take necessary precautions.
