The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the issue of toxic water in Rajasthan’s Jojri river and said that the release of industrial waste into the river is adversely affecting health and other ecosystems.

The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the issue of industrial waste being discharged into the Jojri River in Rajasthan. Hearing the case, the Supreme Court stated that industrial waste from nearby factories is being directly dumped into the river. As a result, the water in hundreds of villages has become contaminated, and people are deprived of clean drinking water. The issue of pollution and toxic water in the Jojri River has been a topic of discussion for several days.

The matter will be referred to the Chief Justice of India.
During the hearing on the issue of pollution and toxic water in the Jojri River, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta stated that the matter be referred to the Chief Justice of India for further orders. The release of industrial waste into the Jojri River is adversely affecting health and other ecological systems.

The Supreme Court has directed the Registry of Rajasthan to register a public interest litigation (PIL) regarding river pollution. During the hearing, the lawyer said- “Hon’ble Judge, I was called in the morning, and I was not present. After this Justice Vikram Nath said- “We have directed the registry to file a PIL related to Rajasthan river pollution. The Hon’ble Chief Justice will decide on this and pass appropriate orders.”

Water left unfit for drinking by people and animals – Court

According to PTI, during the hearing of the case, a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta said – “This court is taking suo motu cognizance of the industrial waste being released in Rajasthan’s Marudhara Jojri river, where a huge amount of industrial waste is being released mainly from textile and tiles factories, due to which the water is no longer fit for drinking for people and animals living in hundreds of villages.”

Know about Jojri river
Let us tell you that Jojri river originates near Pondlu village in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. According to the information, the length of Jojri river is about 83 kilometers and flows through Jodhpur and Barmer districts and merges with Luni river. According to the report, this river is highly polluted due to the waste coming out from the industrial area near Jodhpur.
