Patna High Court takes a tough stand on the AI video made of Prime Minister Modi and his mother and asks social media to remove this video.

Patna: The Patna High Court has taken a strong stance regarding an objectionable AI-generated video about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in this matter, the court issued an interim order prohibiting further circulation of the video and directing its removal from social media.

Posted on the official X handle of the Bihar Congress Committee, the video misrepresents a statement attributed to Prime Minister Modi’s mother, criticizing government policies and making derogatory remarks about the upcoming Bihar elections.

Court Order on Petition
Acting Chief Justice P.B. Baijnathri passed the order on a petition filed by Vivekanand Singh. The court stated that the circulation of the video violated fundamental rights, including the right to privacy and reputation guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. Describing the content as hateful, distasteful, and offensive, the court issued an interim order prohibiting further circulation of the video and directing the removal of existing uploads.

The petition also named Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the central government, and the Election Commission as respondents. Election Commission lawyer Siddharth Prasad told the media, “The court has issued notices to Rahul Gandhi, Facebook, Twitter, and Google, ordering the immediate removal of the video.”

Political uproar, FIR
The video sparked a massive controversy in political circles. BJP leaders condemned it, calling it a personal attack on the Prime Minister and his family. The BJP filed an FIR against unidentified Congress members under sections related to forgery, defamation, and criminal conspiracy. The Congress defended the video, saying it was intended as political criticism and not to insult anyone.

Earlier, a video went viral showing an unidentified man using abusive language against the Prime Minister and his mother on the stage of the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Darbhanga, Bihar. The FIR invokes several sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, specifically sections 18(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(2), 352, 356(2), and 61(2).
