Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said on Saturday that the state government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards crime and drugs. He also warned police officers of action if they fail to stop illegal activities. While chairing a meeting of Inspectors General of Police (IGP) and Superintendents of Police (SP) at the police headquarters in Nava Raipur, the Chief Minister said that if the SPs do not curb crimes in their respective districts, they will have to face strict departmental action.

He said that criminals should fear the police, while the general public should have respect for them as they have for the army. The Chief Minister said that the police should be strict towards criminals and should adopt a soft approach while being polite towards the general public. Sai said that evils like illicit liquor trade, gambling and betting have adverse effects on the society and it is a matter of concern that the youth are affected by these. While instructing the officials, the Chief Minister said that if criminal activities are not stopped, action will be taken against the SP and police station level officials of the concerned district.
“State government with police on every front”
He said that soldiers are fighting bravely in difficult circumstances in Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh and the state government is standing with the police on every front. All necessary steps have been taken for the welfare of the police. State Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, while addressing the meeting, said that in the budget presented in the Assembly on Friday, the allocation of the Home Department has been increased by 16 percent as compared to last year. He said that provision has been made in the budget for ration bags and special types of shoes for the soldiers involved in anti-Naxal operations. Sharma said that apart from this, provision has also been made to increase facilities for officers and employees in the department. Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Ashok Juneja and other senior police officers were also present in the meeting.
