Mumbai: Ahead of the upcoming BMC elections, the BJP has launched a new political campaign by distributing “sweets and namkeen packets” door to door, with the BJP slogan “Ek Hain Toh Safe Hai” printed on the packets.

Ahead of the upcoming BMC elections in Mumbai, the BJP has launched a new political campaign that has created a stir in political circles. The party has begun distributing “sweets and snacks” door-to-door. This distribution is reportedly planned to continue until the Tulsi Vivah. The BJP’s slogan “If we are one, we are safe” is prominently printed on these packets, while another slogan, “If we divide, we will be cut,” is also printed alongside it. Political observers believe this message signals to voters a shift towards unity and polarization.

Opposition Expresses Strong Objection
However, the opposition has strongly objected to this move, calling it an election gimmick. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) has threatened to file a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that the BJP is attempting to influence and incite voters ahead of the BMC elections. UBT leaders allege that through such slogans and sweets distribution campaigns, the BJP is pursuing a strategy of “vote polarization.” They say that this campaign isn’t limited to distributing sweets, but rather attempts to incite religious and political sentiments among the people.

What did the Congress say?
The Congress party claims that the BJP is trying to garner votes by inciting people because it hasn’t achieved development, but that the people of Mumbai will not support the BJP this time.

What clarification did the BJP give?
On this issue, BJP leaders say that this is not an election campaign, but a “social engagement program” that party workers are running to increase social interaction on occasions like Diwali and Tulsi Vivah. They claim that there is no political motive behind it. Political analysts believe that through slogans like “Ek Hai To Safe Hai,” the BJP aims to convey a message of unity within Mumbai’s diverse society and consolidate majority votes. This campaign is considered part of the party’s “ground-connect strategy” ahead of the BMC elections.
