A Muslim couple’s wedding has gone viral these days. In fact, they celebrated their wedding in a unique way. The groom gifted the bride a copy of the Constitution, and the bride gave the groom the same gift. Furthermore, all the guests at the wedding were also given copies of the Constitution. A pamphlet explaining the Constitution’s meaning was also provided. This is the second such unique wedding in the state.
This unique wedding took place in Pallod, near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The groom is Jabirul Hasan and the bride is Aseena. They completed the wedding rituals by gifting each other a copy of the Constitution, along with the religious rites of Nikah.
This wedding was not just a celebration of love and togetherness, but also a message of embracing the ideals enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Hasan previously worked on the Comprehensive Constitutional Literacy Project run by the Kollam District Panchayat. This project inspired him to raise awareness about the Constitution. Hasan is also the treasurer of the Constitutional Literacy Council, an NGO whose mission is to spread knowledge about the Constitution.
The Preamble of the Constitution was also displayed at this unique wedding. After the Nikah, Hasan and Aseena gifted each other a copy of the Constitution and read a message related to the Constitution. The wedding then concluded with the National Anthem.
“An Effort to Create Awareness”
Hassan is interested in social education and has incorporated information about the Constitution into many social events to inspire people. He said this is one such effort. In 2022, Hasan was elected as a senator for the Constitutional Literacy Project. He conducted interactive sessions at colleges and various events, and taught classes for students and the general public in Kollam district.
Aseena has not studied the Constitution.
Groom Hasan said, “Our aim is to show that the values of the Constitution should be a part of family life as well.” She said her family supported her because they knew she worked to spread the message of the Constitution. She told Aseena about this, and she agreed. Aseena hasn’t studied the Constitution, but she is certainly interested in it.
