In Keshavpuram, under the Rawatpur police station area of Kanpur, an LLB student who had gone to buy medicine on Saturday night was brutally attacked by a medical store owner and three of his associates with a chopper, leaving his head fractured. His bones were exposed. His stomach was ripped open, his intestines protruding. Furthermore, two fingers from one hand were severed. The student lay writhing in pain on the road, covered in blood. Seeing the crowd of passersby, the accused fled.
The family visited four hospitals, but three refused to admit him due to his critical condition. Finally, he was admitted to Regency Hospital, where he underwent a two-hour abdominal operation, 14 stitches to his head, and his fingers were reattached.
The victim, Abhijeet Singh Chandel (22), is a first-year LLB student at Kanpur University. His mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, stated that at around 9 pm on Saturday night, Abhijeet had gone to a medical store about a kilometer from his home to buy medicine. There, he got into an argument with the store owner, Amar Singh, over money. Meanwhile, Amar’s brother Vijay Singh, Prince Raj Srivastava, and Nikhil, who were present at the shop, began fighting. Then, they took out a chopper and attacked.
Neelam said, “First, they hit Abhijeet on the head, exposing his bones. When Abhijeet fell, they struck him several times on the stomach, causing his intestines to protrude. When he tried to escape, they caught him and cut off two of his fingers. When passersby ran to the scene, the accused fled. Family members arrived at the scene, tied Abhijeet’s intestines with a cloth, and took him to the hospital. Seeing Abhijeet’s condition, several hospitals refused to admit him. After a two-hour operation at Regency Hospital, his condition is reported to be stable, but the fight for his life continues.
False accusations leveled against Abhijeet
Shockingly, the attackers colluded with the police and filed a case of extortion, robbery, and assault against the injured Abhijeet. Based on Vijay Singh’s complaint, Rawatpur police filed a case against Abhijeet under serious charges. Mother Neelam alleged that the main accused, Prince Raj Srivastava, is a criminal and claims to be a lawyer. Cases of extortion and land grabbing are registered against him at Kakadev police station. Other accused also have previous cases.
Three accused arrested
Family members have accused the police of bias and demanded a fair investigation from higher authorities. Locals are angry that despite such brutality, the accused are still roaming freely. Meanwhile, the police say that after receiving a complaint from the other side, a case was registered and three accused were arrested.
