Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday inaugurated projects worth ₹75 crore for the renovation of the historic Kali Mata Temple. Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal stated that the state government has a special responsibility to prioritize such projects of immense public importance. The AAP National Convenor stated that the Shri Kali Mata Temple is one of the most revered and historic temples in North India. He stated that the temple is a testament to Punjab’s rich spiritual heritage and royal patronage. Arvind Kejriwal noted that the temple complex houses the main temple dedicated to Kali Mata, as well as the ancient temple of Shri Raj Rajeshwari Ji, the embodiment of Shakti.
Architecturally Unique
The AAP National Convenor stated that these two places of worship make the temple complex both spiritually significant and architecturally unique, where centuries-old traditions are beautifully blended with modern infrastructure. He said the temple’s importance is evident from the fact that approximately 10,000 devotees visit daily, approximately 40,000 every Saturday, and this number swells to nearly one lakh during the Navratri festival. Arvind Kejriwal said the state government has initiated several projects worth Rs 73.52 crore to revamp the Shri Kali Mata Temple.

The AAP national convener said work is underway to ensure clean water supply to the temple’s tank from the Bhakra Canal, and an amount of Rs 1.15 crore has been approved for this project. He said the temple’s existing sewerage system and stormwater drainage system are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 49.06 lakh. Arvind Kejriwal said an Aam Aadmi Clinic is being set up inside the temple complex at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, which will provide medical assistance not only to local residents but also to visiting devotees.
The Spirituality and Beauty of the Temple
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann further stated that to enhance the temple’s spirituality and beauty, a light and sound show will be organized near the Sarovar, similar to those at major pilgrimage sites. He stated that this project will cost ₹6.78 crore and tenders have been issued. Mann further stated that an elevator is being installed in the newly constructed building at a cost of ₹15.11 lakh.
Chief Minister Mann stated that a new path is being constructed near the Sarovar for the convenience of devotees. He stated that projects related to the new temple building, corridor, boundary wall, entrance, and Sarovar have been undertaken collectively. A daily langar service will be initiated by Bhagwant Singh Mann for devotees, especially those from remote areas or economically disadvantaged, in accordance with Sikh and Hindu traditions.

Traditional Architecture to be Redesigned
The Chief Minister further stated that all entrances to the temple will be redesigned in accordance with traditional architecture. He said that during weekends and Navratri, when a large number of devotees arrive, a planned queue management system with barricaded lanes and signboards will be implemented to ensure smooth movement of devotees.
The Chief Minister said that a hall has been constructed inside the temple to accommodate the visiting devotees and parking has been arranged for 300 vehicles. He said that the state government is fully committed to developing this spiritual center as an architectural marvel of Punjab. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that the state government will leave no stone unturned for this noble cause.
