The Mokama assembly seat has become a hot seat in the Bihar assembly elections. Since the Dularchand Yadav murder case, all eyes are on the political arena in Mokama. Anant Singh, the accused in the murder case and JDU candidate, is currently in Beur jail. Until a day before his arrest, he campaigned vigorously and sought public support.
Now, after his imprisonment, JDU’s powerful leader and Union Minister Lallan Singh has taken charge of Anant Singh’s election campaign. Lallan Singh’s presence in Mokama has raised many questions. Questions arise as to why the JDU did this and what compelled them to do so.

Apart from the JDU, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary from the BJP was also seen campaigning for Anant Singh. Lallan Singh and Samrat rode in the same jeep and appealed to the people of Mokama to vote for Anant Singh. Lallan Singh also accused Anant Singh of being framed.
JDU has avoided direct support in such cases.
Regarding Bihar politics, JDU has so far avoided directly supporting anyone in serious cases like murder. Nitish Kumar himself has repeatedly proclaimed, “Neither protect nor implicate,” but the situation in Mokama appears to be different from JDU’s previous strategy and politics.
The support for Anant Singh in Mokama is being considered a deliberate strategy by politicians. This clearly reflects the relationship between Lallan Singh and Anant Singh. The closeness between Lallan Singh and Anant Singh is no secret, whether it was the 2004 Lok Sabha elections or the current assembly elections.
Attempt to win as many seats as possible
According to those closely monitoring the elections, JDU is not willing to compromise in any way this time. It is striving to ensure that its candidates win as many seats as possible. One reason behind this is that the more seats JDU wins, the more powerful it will become within the NDA.
The first reason for JDU’s open support
The Mokama seat fits this JDU strategy perfectly. The first reason is that Anant Singh has a high chance of winning the Mokama seat. Anant Singh’s imprisonment has strengthened, not weakened, the JDU in this seat. JDU knows that Anant Singh’s imprisonment is bound to polarize votes. If this happens, JDU, and Anant Singh, could benefit and even win the seat. Therefore, JDU does not want to miss the opportunity at the last moment.
The second reason
The second reason is that if JDU leaves Anant Singh alone, it could directly impact nearly a dozen seats in Nawada, Begusarai, Munger, and Patna. These are seats where the number of Bhumihar voters is significant, and Anant Singh has a strong influence among the people. Furthermore, Anant Singh is also considered a strong financial force for the JDU.
Third Reason
The third and final reason is that if Anant Singh loses the political battle in Mokama, it could directly impact his relationship with Lallan Singh. This is because it is believed that Anant Singh not only campaigned openly for Lallan Singh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but also played a key role in his victory.
Therefore, Anant Singh and the JDU are seen standing with Anant Singh, and Lallan Singh himself was seen campaigning in Mokama. The JDU is also well aware that being with Anant Singh is not only a profitable deal for it, but also a loss.
