Maharashtra State Election Commission has announced the schedule for urban local body elections for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats, voting will be held on December 2.

The Maharashtra State Election Commission today announced the election schedule for the state’s urban local self-government institutions. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare stated in a press conference that elections will be held in 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats. However, elections will be held later in the 105 municipal councils whose term has not yet ended.

Waghmare stated that direct elections will also be held for the post of president of the municipal councils. He also clarified that the results of the municipal corporation and district council elections will not be announced today. The State Election Commission also announced the release of a mobile app to ensure transparency and convenience for voters. This app will provide detailed information on candidates and voters.

Prohibition on Duplicate Voters
The issue of duplicate voters is currently a hot topic in state politics. To prevent duplicate or double voting, the Commission has developed a new tool. Under this system, if a voter is already registered at another polling station, a double star alert will appear at the time of voting. Polling officials will then verify the voter’s identity and obtain a written declaration from them that they will not vote again. 288 election officials and 66,775 election staff will be deployed across the state for the election process.
