Punjab Police has issued a lookout notice against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra. He has been absconding since September 2 in a rape case. Officials reported on Thursday that posters have been pasted outside the Sunour MLA’s official residence, private home, and bus stand.
Meanwhile, Pathanmajra’s lawyers, Bikramjit Singh Bhullar and SS Saggu, said they will soon approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for anticipatory bail.
Anticipatory bail plea rejected
A local court has already rejected his anticipatory bail plea. A case was registered against Pathanmajra at the Civil Lines police station on September 1 on charges of rape, fraud, and criminal intimidation.
Case registered based on woman’s complaint
The case was registered based on a complaint from a woman from Zirakpur, who alleged that the MLA had physical relations with her by claiming to be a divorcee and later married her in 2021, despite the fact that he was already married. The woman accused the MLA of repeatedly sexually harassing her, threatening her, and sending her “obscene” material.
Fearing the possibility of the accused MLA fleeing the country, the police have issued a lookout notice. Posters of him have been put up in several public locations, including the Sanaur assembly constituency and his official residence. According to Gurmeet Singh, in-charge of the Civil Lines police station, raids are being conducted at various locations to arrest the MLA, but no clue has been found so far.
He explained that as part of the legal process, posters of the accused MLA have now been put up in public places so that if the public sees him anywhere, they can immediately inform the police.
