Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader R.K. Singh has been suspended by the party for six years for “anti-party activities.” Significantly, this decision comes a day after the NDA alliance’s landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. Shortly after his expulsion, R.K. Singh resigned from the BJP’s primary membership on Saturday.
Why did the BJP expel R.K. Singh?
It should be noted that R.K. Singh, a former Member of Parliament from Ara, Bihar, had been sharply criticizing the BJP and the NDA for the past few months, leveling numerous allegations against the Nitish Kumar government. His allegations of a scam in the commissioning of a power plant in Bihar sparked a major political controversy just days before the state elections. At that time, the BJP took no action against him regarding the election, but expelled him from the party as soon as the election results were announced.
RK Singh resigns from the party, find out what he wrote
Dear Nadda ji,
I have received a letter from some members of the media (copy enclosed) stating that the party has decided to suspend me for anti-party activities. I have also been asked why I should not be expelled from the party. The letter does not mention the anti-party activities I have been accused of. I cannot file a show-cause notice for allegations that have not been mentioned.
The show-cause notice is likely due to my statement against the distribution of tickets to people with criminal backgrounds. This statement is not anti-party. Preventing the criminalization of politics and curbing corruption is in the interest of the nation, society, and the party, but it appears that some within the party disagree. I have submitted a reply to the state BJP office (copy enclosed).
I resign from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
