Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed concern over the recent Delhi bombings, stating that an attempt is being made to create an atmosphere as if everyone in the Union Territory is guilty. He stated that the involvement of a few individuals in the terrorist attack is causing the entire population of Kashmir to be viewed with suspicion.
On November 10th, a blast occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi, killing 13 people and seriously injuring several others. The main suspect in the blast has been identified as Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Several others have also been detained for questioning on suspicion, creating an atmosphere of fear among the people there.
Dr. Omar was driving the car
Dr. Omar Un Nabi was the driver of the car that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, while his friends, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, a resident of Pulwama, and Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, a resident of Anantnag, were part of the “white-collar” terrorist module linked to the Delhi blast.
“People of Kashmir are being viewed with suspicion”
On Wednesday (November 19), at an event in Kulgam, Omar Abdullah said that the involvement of some individuals in the terrorist attack has led to the entire Kashmiri community being viewed with suspicion. He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are afraid to travel outside the Union Territory because they are all viewed as suspects due to the violent actions of a few individuals. He said that it doesn’t feel good to say this, but what can we do, this is the reality.
“Parents will not like to send their children abroad”
Omar Abdullah said that under the current circumstances, parents will not like to send their children abroad. He said, “When we are looked at with suspicion from all sides, when attempts are made to defame us for someone else’s actions, when attempts are made to punish everyone for the actions of a few, then it obviously becomes difficult for us to go out.”
“Some people are responsible for what happened.”
The Chief Minister further said that some people are responsible for what happened in Delhi, but the impression is being created that we are all responsible for it and we are all a part of it. He said that even driving a vehicle with Jammu and Kashmir registration in Delhi is considered a crime.
‘Driving a vehicle with Jammu and Kashmir registration is also a crime in Delhi’
He said, “Today, driving a vehicle with Jammu and Kashmir registration is considered a crime in Delhi. When I don’t have many security personnel with me, I wonder whether I should take my vehicle out or not, because I don’t know if someone will stop me and ask where I’m from or why I’m there.”
Several security agencies are investigating the November 10th blast, including the Delhi Police Special Team, the NIA, and the Crime Branch. Last week, Abdullah condemned the attack, saying that not every Kashmiri Muslim is a terrorist and that innocent people should not be dragged into it. He said that no amount of condemnation of this incident would be enough. No religion allows the brutal killing of innocent people. An investigation has begun, but not every resident of Jammu and Kashmir is a terrorist and not every resident stands with terrorists.”
