Thane: Tragic news has emerged from Thane, Maharashtra. A tragic road accident occurred in Ambernath, Thane district, around 7 p.m. on Friday evening, killing four people and seriously injuring four others. The accident occurred on the flyover connecting Ambernath East and West.
What is the whole story?
A Tata Nexon car traveling from Ambernath West to East suddenly lost control and collided with several motorcycles coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so severe that three people died on the spot. The driver also died at the scene. CCTV footage of the accident is rapidly going viral on social media.
According to police, the car was traveling at a high speed and, after losing control, veered directly into the opposite lane, crushing the oncoming motorcyclists. One motorcyclist was thrown off the flyover and died on the spot.
The Tata Nexon involved in the accident is registered in the name of Pramod Choubey, a Shiv Sena leader from Ambernath. His wife, Suman Chaubey, was also in the car at the time of the accident. Suman Chaubey is contesting the municipal council elections from the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and was on her way to Buapada for election campaigning. She suffered injuries to her hand and other parts of her body. Trapped inside the car after the accident, locals broke the window and pulled her out and rushed her to the hospital.
Local Accusations
Some locals claim that the driver suffered a sudden heart attack, causing him to accidentally press the accelerator. Others allege that the driver was drunk. However, the police have not confirmed these claims and the investigation is ongoing.
Senior Police Inspector Shabbir Ahmed of the Ambernath Police Station stated that four people have been confirmed dead and four injured so far. One injured person has been admitted to the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar, while the other three have been transferred to a hospital in Dombivali. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Ulhasnagar for post-mortem.
SI Shabbir Ahmed said the process of identifying the deceased and injured was ongoing, and the cause of the accident was being investigated. Police teams remained stationed on the flyover until late at night, and traffic gradually returned to normal.
