Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar’s social posts heat up Karnataka politics, with Siddaramaiah saying the people’s mandate is a responsibility that will last for five years.

The rivalry between two prominent Congress leaders for the Chief Minister’s post in Karnataka has now come out in the open. Speculation about a change of Chief Minister in the state gained further traction when Siddaramaiah responded to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s sarcastic post. When DK Shivakumar posted on social media about the power of words and keeping promises, it was expected that CM Siddaramaiah would not respond, but the political developments of the past few hours have been the opposite.

Siddaramaiah’s response to DK Shivakumar’s jibe

DK Shivakumar had said, “The power of words is the power of the world. The greatest power in the world is keeping one’s promise. Whether it’s a judge, a president, or even himself, everyone should keep their word, because that’s where the real power lies.” Following this, CM Siddaramaiah posted on Instagram, listing his government’s achievements and stating that words are not power unless they make the world a better place for the people. However, he did not mention any names in his post.

The people’s mandate is not momentary: Siddaramaiah

He said, “The mandate given by the people of Karnataka is not momentary, but a responsibility that lasts for five years. Our promise to Karnataka is not a slogan, but holds immense significance for us. From the very first month of forming the government, the Congress party has worked to translate its promises into practice, not just words.” He then listed his government’s schemes.

Siddaramaiah listed his government’s schemes.

He said, “I am proud to announce that the Shakti Yojana has provided over ₹600 crore worth of free travel to women in our state. The Griha Lakshmi Yojana has empowered 12.4 million women-headed families. The Yuva Nidhi Yojana has provided security and hope to over 300,000 youth. The Anna Bhagya Yojana 2.0 guarantees food security for 40.8 million citizens. The Griha Jyoti Yojana provides free electricity to 16.4 million families.”

“Our promise to Karnataka is not a slogan”

CM Siddaramaiah said, “During my first term (2013-18), 157 out of 165 promises were fulfilled, and over 95 percent of promises were fulfilled. In my current term, over 243 out of 593 promises have been fulfilled. All other promises will be fulfilled with commitment, credibility, and care. Our promise to Karnataka is not a slogan, but holds great significance for us.”
