Central Railway has introduced a system where passengers will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) for instant ticket booking, after which the ticket will be booked. This OTP system is applicable when booking tickets under the Tatkal quota on select trains of Central Railway.

Central Railway has taken a major decision regarding Tatkal ticket booking. Now, passengers will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) during booking, after which the ticket will be booked. This OTP-based authentication system will be implemented for Tatkal quota tickets booked on select Central Railway trains. This decision has been taken to ensure that only genuine passengers benefit from this reservation facility.

When will the new rule be implemented?
Central Railway stated in a press release that the new system will be applicable to Tatkal tickets booked through computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, authorized agents, and the IRCTC website or mobile app. This facility will be implemented on 13 trains from December 6th, including Duronto and Vande Bharat services. For the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, it will be effective one day earlier, from December 5th. Furthermore, this system has already been implemented on the Pune-Hyderabad Shatabdi Express from December 1st.

How will the verification work?
To book a Tatkal ticket from a railway reservation counter, passengers will now have to provide an OTP.
Under this system, when passengers book a Tatkal ticket by filling out a reservation form or through the mobile app, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number provided by them.
The OTP will be sent to the mobile number mentioned in the Tatkal ticket application form. The ticket will be booked only after the OTP is successfully verified.
This ensures that passengers’ tickets are confirmed only after successful OTP verification.
It is expected that this OTP-based Tatkal reservation system may be implemented on all other trains in the coming days. This will bring transparency to railway ticketing.
