BSF Constable Recruitment Former Agniveers Quota: The Union Home Ministry has increased the quota for former Agniveers in the Border Security Force (BSF) constable recruitment from 10 percent to 50 percent. The ministry has issued a notification in this regard. According to the notification, this increase has been made through an amendment to the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015. The first batch of former Agniveers will receive an age relaxation of up to 5 years in the upper age limit, while other former Agniveers will receive a relaxation of 3 years.

Recruitment to be conducted in 2 phases
The notification states that in the first phase, recruitment will be done for 50 percent of the vacancies reserved for former Agniveers. In the second phase, the Staff Selection Commission will recruit candidates other than former Agniveers for the remaining 47 percent of the vacancies (which includes ten percent for ex-servicemen). Vacancies remaining unfilled in a specific category for former Agniveers in the first stage will also be filled in the second stage. The number of vacancies for female candidates will be decided annually by the Director General, Border Security Force, based on operational requirements.

Latest notification pertains only to BSF
Previously, 10 percent of the Constable (General Duty) vacancies in all Central Armed Police Forces were reserved for former Agniveers. It is important to note that the latest notification pertains only to changes in the rules of the Border Security Force and not to other Central Armed Police Forces.

Written examination is mandatory
According to the existing rules, former Agniveers will be exempted from the Physical Efficiency Test, but they will have to pass the written examination. The BSF and the Indian Army work together on the international border and the Line of Control. During Operation Sindoor, BSF teams in Jammu and Kashmir worked alongside Indian Army personnel during cross-border firing incidents.
