Rashtriya Lok Dal gave the first blow to the India alliance in UP, when Jayant Choudhary announced to join NDA amidst all the speculations. Jayant was said to be angry over the seat sharing with SP. Here, as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the award of Bharat Ratna to his grandfather Chaudhary Charan Singh, Jayant’s heart became happy. On February 12, Jayant Chaudhary said that he has decided to join NDA after talking to all the party MLAs.
The second blow to SP came from within the party when on February 13, senior backward leader Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the post of National General Secretary. As soon as Akhilesh Yadav announced SP’s Rajya Sabha candidates, Maurya got angry. It is being said that he himself wanted to go to Rajya Sabha. He resigned by writing a long letter. However, he also said that he will continue to work as a party worker.
Pallavi Patel is also angry
The third blow to SP came a few hours later on February 13, when its ally Apna Dal Kamerawadi’s Pallavi Patel objected to the names of actresses Jaya Bachchan and Alok Ranjan in the Rajya Sabha. He said that SP talks about PDA but they have made it filmy. She will not vote for the SP candidate. His party will review the alliance.
The fourth blow to the India alliance in UP was received in the Congress party, when on February 14, Vibhakar Shastri, son of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, resigned from the Congress and some joined the BJP. He contested the elections from Fatehpur Lok Sabha seat of UP but he lost the election.
