New Delhi: Three men attacked a man with a beer bottle in the Karol Bagh area of the capital, Delhi. Police said that the three men were apprehended with the help of the barcode on the beer bottle. According to the police, three men, intoxicated, were misbehaving with a man in a park. During this time, they attacked the man on the head with a beer bottle. After the incident, the victim was admitted to a nearby hospital in Karol Bagh, where his life was saved. Based on the victim’s complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections, including attempt to murder.
Misbehavior while shooting a reel
Police said that the incident took place on December 15. A man was shooting a reel with his friend in Ajmal Khan Park. Meanwhile, three men were drinking alcohol nearby and started misbehaving with the victim. A police officer said, “When the man shooting the reel objected to the behavior of the accused, a heated argument ensued, which soon escalated into violence. One of the accused broke a beer bottle and struck the complainant on the head, causing him serious injuries.”
Barcode found on the beer bottle
Police said, “Considering the seriousness of the crime, a special police team was formed. During a detailed investigation of the crime scene at Ajmal Khan Park, the police recovered a broken piece of the beer bottle used in the attack.” The officer said that a barcode was found on the recovered bottle piece, which proved to be a crucial forensic clue in the case. Police said that with the help of the barcode, the investigation team visited nearby liquor shops to trace the source of the bottle.
Accused apprehended with the help of the barcode
According to the police, CCTV footage from the identified liquor shop and surrounding areas was analyzed, which led to the identification of a scooter suspected to have been used by the accused. Police said that examining CCTV footage from nearby locations helped the police establish the identity of the suspects. The officer said, “Our team arrested the three accused, Hammad alias Rizwan (22), Kamran alias Sarim (24), and Farzan (24), on December 18, within 72 hours of the incident. During questioning, all three accused confessed to their involvement in the attack.”
Argument over asking for a matchbox
The accused told the police that the argument started when they asked the man who was making a reel for a matchbox, which he refused to give. The police said that the accused then searched the complainant’s pockets, which led to a scuffle and escalated the situation.
