“What kind of justice is this?” – Yogita Bhayana
Women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana expressed her anger over the court’s decision on the social media platform X. She wrote, “Wow, this is the law of the country, this is the justice of the country. How will we protect the girls of this country? How will they get justice! This girl is the victim of the Unnao gang rape. After the brutality, her father died in police custody, her aunt and lawyer died in a car accident, she had more than 100 stitches, several broken bones, and was on a ventilator. After 6 months of treatment, her life was saved, and now… What kind of justice is this??? The victim is crying for justice – saying there is no option left but suicide.”

Victim’s mother’s demands and questions about justice
The victim’s mother also expressed deep dissatisfaction with the court’s decision. She said that it doesn’t matter whether the accused is at home or 500 kilometers away; what matters is that he committed the crime and should be punished. He acknowledged that both sides have the right to appeal, but emphasized that the court should conduct a fair trial, taking into account the victim and the events that transpired. He clearly stated that the accused should not be granted bail in such a serious case. This statement shows that the victim’s family still hopes for justice, but the recent decision has deeply shaken their faith.
