New Delhi: Major news has emerged regarding the Delhi Metro. The Delhi Metro will be expanded, with 13 new stations being built along a 16-kilometer stretch in Phase 5A. The Modi cabinet has approved ₹12,015 crore for the Delhi Metro expansion.

The Delhi Metro expansion will cover the routes from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, Ramakrishna Ashram to Indraprastha, and Aerocity to Terminal 1.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Phase 5A of the Delhi Metro at a cost of ₹12,015 crore. This will add 16 kilometers to the metro line and include 13 stations. Ten of these stations will be underground and three will be elevated. Vaishnaw provided this information to reporters while briefing them on the decisions taken by the cabinet. He said the metro expansion project will take three years to complete.

New expansion will take Delhi Metro network past this milestone
Regarding the decisions of the Union Cabinet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that with the new expansion, the Delhi Metro network will cross the 400-kilometer mark. The construction timeline for Phase 5A of the Delhi Metro Rail Project is three years. The construction work will be mostly done underground using tunnel boring machines, minimizing disruption to traffic.

How many passengers use the Delhi Metro daily?
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “On average, 6.5 million passengers use the Delhi Metro daily. On busy days, the Delhi Metro also carries up to 8 million people in a single day.”

It is worth noting that the Delhi Metro is the most widely used mode of transport for people in Delhi to reach their destinations. Therefore, this expansion will greatly benefit commuters in Delhi.
