The BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) alliance in Maharashtra is facing significant turmoil in state politics due to rifts in several major cities ahead of the municipal corporation elections.

Ahead of the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) alliance has broken down in several major cities, causing significant upheaval in state politics. New alliances, unilateral elections, and shifting equations are now emerging in different cities. Voting for 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, will be held on January 15th, and counting will take the following day, January 16th.

BJP-Shiv Sena alliance broken in these municipal corporations:
Mira-Bhayandar, Dhule, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nanded, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, Akola, Malegaon, Ahilyanagar.

City-wise political situation:
Ahilyanagar: The BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) alliance has also broken down in the Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation. An alliance between the BJP and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) is now considered certain, while the Shiv Sena will contest the elections independently.

Nashik: The political equations are completely reversed in Nashik. Here, the Ajit Pawar faction and the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) will contest the elections together, while the Bharatiya Janata Party will contest independently. The Nashik Municipal Corporation has a total of 122 corporator seats.

Dhule: After the breakdown of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Dhule, an alliance between the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar) is almost finalized. According to sources, the Shiv Sena will get 60 seats, and the NCP (Ajit Pawar) will get 40 seats. This alliance will be applicable except in Muslim-majority areas. An official announcement is expected by this evening.

Jalgaon: The Mahayuti alliance has finally been formed in Jalgaon, but after considerable wrangling.

The seat distribution is as follows:
BJP – 42 seats

Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) – 23 seats

NCP (Ajit Pawar) – 6 seats

Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad:
Due to not receiving a respectable number of seats, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has decided to contest all 78 seats independently. Kolhapur – In the state, the MahaYuti alliance is considered to be completely successful only in Kolhapur.

BJP – 36 seats

Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) – 30 seats

NCP (Ajit Pawar) – 15 seats

Ichalkaranji – The MahaYuti alliance has also been formed in Ichalkaranji.

BJP – 52 seats

Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) – 11 seats

NCP (Ajit Pawar) – 2 seats

The constantly shifting alliances clearly indicate that local dynamics and seat-sharing arrangements have dealt a significant blow to the unity of the MahaYuti alliance. In several cities, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the BJP appear to be on separate paths, while in some places, the NCP (Ajit Pawar) is emerging as a crucial link in the new power balance. It will be important to see how this fragmentation influences the voters’ decisions and which new alliance manages to secure power in each city.
