Following action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Delhi Police has now tightened its grip on Al Falah University. The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested the university’s chairman, Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui. This action was taken under two separate FIRs registered based on a complaint from the UGC. These two FIRs level serious allegations of fraud against the university’s chairman, Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui.
The Crime Branch arrested the accused and presented him in court, where the police obtained a four-day custody remand. Al Falah University came into the spotlight during the Delhi bomb blasts. At that time, the police arrested two doctors working at the university. Their names are Muzammil Ahmed Ganai and Shaheen Saeed. Now, the university’s chairman has been arrested.
Why was the arrest made?
Since the terrorist attacks in Delhi, Al Falah University, located in Faridabad, Haryana, has been under suspicion. Questions were also raised about the university’s role in the unearthing of the terrorist module. Several arrests were made. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police Crime Branch registered two FIRs against the university. Based on these cases, the ED also intensified its investigation.
Al Falah University is accused of conspiring to mislead students, their families, and others associated with the university to illegally gain profits. They allegedly lied by claiming to be NAAC accredited and UGC recognized. They made several misleading claims. Based on these allegations, Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, the chairman of the Al Falah group, was arrested.
After the arrest, the police presented the accused, Jawad, in court. The court sent the accused on a four-day custody remand. The court has scheduled a hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet for February 13.
Why was the university’s appeal rejected?
After hearing the university’s side during the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Sheetal Chaudhary Pradhan adjourned the hearing of the case. The lawyers representing the university told the court that they had not yet been able to read the police charge sheet and related documents, and needed more time. They stated that the police charge sheet documents comprised approximately 10,000 pages and that they required time to review them thoroughly.
Siddiqui is facing cases from both the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He is already in the custody of the Delhi Police, and the ED is now also tightening its grip on him. Siddiqui’s lawyers said they had not been able to meet with their client because he is currently in the custody of the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
