The discovery of a Stone Age skeleton caused a stir at the Tekkalkot excavation in Bellary. Two skeletons had already been found before this, and excavation work was subsequently halted. The report will provide the exact time and age of the skeletons.
A third Stone Age skeleton has been discovered during excavations on the Gaudra Mule hill in Tekkalkot town in Siraguppa taluk. Researchers halted the excavation work after the skeleton was discovered while removing a pot. Bellary Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman Phannekar visited the excavation site and obtained information about the skeletons and utensils.
Two skeletons have been found during excavations before.
A team of researchers led by Namita S. Sugandhi, a professor at Hartwick University in the United States and co-director of the excavation team, recently discovered two complete human skeletons, each 5.5 feet tall, during excavations at the Gaudra Mule hill. Initially, only human bones were found when digging the soil. However, when they dug deeper, they discovered skeletons. This is the third skeleton found since then.
What is the age of the skeletons?
The discovery of these skeletons intact is surprising. They are estimated to be approximately 3,000 to 5,000 years old, and their exact date will only be determined after carbon dating tests. M.S. Nagaraja Rao, Director of the Mysore Archaeological Survey of India, conducted excavations at the same Tekkalakotte site in 1964. He has provided detailed information about this in his book, “The Stone Age Hill Dwellers in Tekkalakotte.”
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman Phannekar stated that information about the discovery of a skeleton during excavations was received. Following the information, the site was inspected. He added that the skeleton has been sent for carbon dating testing. The report will clarify its age.
