IIT Madras alumnus and UC Berkeley student, 22-year-old Saketh Srinivasaiah, was found tragically dead in the US after being missing for six days.

The body of Saketh Srinivasaiah, a 22-year-old Indian student pursuing a master’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, has been recovered after six days of disappearance. The discovery has sparked an outpouring of grief within the Indian community. The Indian Embassy in San Francisco has confirmed the recovery, expressing condolences to the family, and has assured them that the body will be repatriated to India as soon as possible.

Saket went missing on February 9th. He was last seen about a kilometer from campus. Following his disappearance, a massive search operation was launched in the Lake Anza and Berkeley Hills areas. Police recovered his bag, which contained his passport and laptop, in a residential area near Tilden Regional Park. Subsequently, the body was recovered.

Srinivasaiah was a brilliant student. Originally from Karnataka, Saketh was a graduate in chemical engineering from IIT Madras. He subsequently pursued a Master of Science in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Berkeley under the Product Development Program, which runs from August 2025 to May 2026.

Saket had a keen interest in deep-tech innovation, particularly in soft materials, semiconductors, and advanced materials. He worked for nearly two years as an undergraduate researcher and Young Research Fellow in the Polymer Engineering Lab at IIT Madras. He also served as a Young Research Fellow at Unilever and gained experience as a research and development intern at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad.

Active in Other Activities Beyond Education
In addition to his academics, Saket was actively involved in student initiatives at IIT Madras. Within E-Cell, IIT Madras, he held several key positions, including Head of Growth and Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of Development and Associations. He also served as a Member of the Chemical Engineering Department.

The Indian Consulate expressed condolences, saying, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones in this extremely difficult time.”
