Some farmer organizations of Punjab and Haryana have marched to Delhi with their demands, meanwhile the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step. The UP government has issued an order that no agitation, demonstration or strike will be carried out for the next 6 months. UP Additional Chief Secretary Personnel Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi has also issued a notification in this regard. Public interest has been made the basis for this restriction in the notification.
According to the notification, no demonstration of any kind will be possible in Uttar Pradesh for the next 6 months. If anyone is found protesting or striking, he will be arrested without any warrant. It is clearly written in the notification that this order has been implemented on all government departments, all corporations and authorities under the state government. It has been made clear in the notification that strict action will be taken against any employee of any department for violating the ESMA Act.
Have banned before also
The UP government has issued such a notification earlier also. In fact, in 2023, the employees of the electricity department went on strike, during which the government had issued a notification. The government has implemented ESMA Act which is implemented only in such circumstances and it can be implemented for up to 6 months. Actually ESMA i.e. Essential Services Management Act is used to stop strikes or demonstrations.
Then why did the farmers movement start?
The demands of the farmers have not been fulfilled for a long time due to which the farmers had already given an ultimatum to the government. Meanwhile, farmer organizations had also talked to the government side in Chandigarh. During this, Swaminathan Commission report was discussed and demands related to MSP were put forward. The government has accepted some demands of the farmers but the farmers organizations are still adamant on some demands. For this reason the farmers movement has started again.
