Goa: A rented Mahindra Thar SUV rams into a Hyundai i20 car at Happy Bar Junction in Assagao, killing one person and injuring two others in the car.

A major road accident occurred in Goa’s Anjuna area on Monday. A rented Mahindra Thar SUV collided with a Hyundai i20 car at the Happy Bar Junction in Assagao, North Goa, killing one member of a family visiting from Bhopal and injuring two others. The red Thar was carrying a group of young men and women. The impact was so severe that the rear portion of the i20 was shattered. Bhagatram Sharma, a passenger in the car who was also on a trip to Goa with his family in the Hyundai i20, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.

Two other passengers in the hatchback sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. Significantly, a five-month-old child in the i20 car escaped unhurt. Police stated that the Mahindra Thar was a rental vehicle. Eyewitnesses allege that the Thar occupants tried to change seats immediately after the collision.

The viral video shows a young man in the Thar talking on the phone, saying, “Papa, I was at the intersection…” after which his voice fades. Three young women are seen in the rear seats of the damaged SUV. The situation at the scene reportedly became tense as locals accused the Thar occupants of trying to shield the driver (allegedly a woman) from responsibility.

The footage shows a portion of the hatchback completely crushed. Police have seized the rented vehicle and registered a case of death due to negligent driving. Officials are investigating allegations of “driver swapping.” Authorities have begun examining CCTV footage from the intersection to determine who was driving the Thar at the time of the collision. The vehicle is in police custody. Police have said the investigation will consider forensic evidence, eyewitness accounts and video footage to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
